Alan Cotton rolled back the years with a vintage display of classy flat hitting at his old alma mater , Colebridge Table Tennis Club last night ( January 18th ), as Snitterfield beat The Pasties 8-2.
Cotton was deservedly Player Of The Match , contributing to a match score which may well determine the destination of the title in the villagers favour come the Spring.
The Pasties were grateful to Tom Shortley for his brace , as he defeated both Clive Irwin and John Price in straight sets but they were to be the only Pasty successes on a good natured and friendly evening which surely witnessed the Pasty tenure as joint champions to be over.
Both the Mikes , Credland and Evetts , did their best but without reward.
Whilst Tom Shortley and Mike Evetts took a two set lead in the doubles , they lacked the necessary mettle to convert their advantage into a further point , the only set of the evening which went the distance.
Congratulations then to Snitterfield and their travelling entourage of acolytes, a pleasure to enjoy a sherbert at the local hostelry at the conclusion of proceedings.
