Warwickshire Veterans won the Division One title and with it gained promotion to the Premier Division in the County Championships.
After a superb start with a victory by Adrian Pilgrim over Lancashire’s Steve Scowcroft in the opening singles, Warwickshire then slumped to 4-1 down in the match.
All seemed lost before a superb comeback ensured a 5-5 draw in the deciding final game of the mixed doubles with the pairing of Pilgrim and Dawn Sagoo. This resulted in Warwickshire topping the division by one point over Lancashire.
Pilgrim played a major part and only dropped one singles match over the campaign, while Sagoo also did exceptionally well, only losing two singles games and one mixed doubles.
Ian Ferguson had to be left out due to work commitments but had already done the damage with crucial victories in the match against Yorkshire.
Mark Jackson also had an excellent win over highly-rated Dave Robson in the match against Northumberland.
Warwickshire now have teams in both the Senior County Premier and the Veterans Premier divisions.
