Colebridge Chiefs 7 Millennium 3.
Match report by Neil Wheatley.
Although scheduled as the last of the season’s first half, yesterday’s Chiefs’ Leamington League match on Monday was only their second home contest. Three of the opposing teams were unable to find enough players for the journey to Shirley previously and even, the latest, Millennium A, only came with two players. At least the rearranged dates mean that Chiefs could now look forward to 4 home matches in a row.
Obviously, the word had got round that the match marked the league debut of 15 year old Lisa Rinnhofer and that an interesting contest was in prospect, as a goodly number of spectators arrived and preferred Chief’s match to the Division 1 match next door.
Lisa didn’t disappoint, although the audience had to wait for her second set to see her find the form she has shown in the County and National Junior League. Playing the very experienced Rob Warnes, she came from 2-1 down to finish with two winning games full of attacking shots on both wings.
Team mates, Mike Credland and Neil Wheatley managed a single apiece and teamed up to win the doubles, giving Chiefs only their second victory. 7 points on top of the 5 gained in last week’s draw at Free Church D should now push Chiefs well away from the relegation places.
