Eagles Narrow Scrape.
The best efforts of fast improving Jamie Fellows were not enough to prevent his side , Colebridge Falcons , being on the wrong end of a 6-4 score line yesterday evening ( December 2nd ) at The Theatre of Dreams.
Fellows beat both Mike Evetts and Mike Credland in a creditable display of forehand top spinning , but all his promise could not overcome the aggressive flat hitting of The Eagles talismanic Captain , Bernard Oliver.
Oliver also powered past Tim Fell with typically enthusiastic gusto but then fell foul of the subtle subterfuges of Frank Cotter , who was able to drop away from the table and counter hit against his opponent , Oliver falling 11-9 in the fifth.
The Falcons doubles pairing of Fellows and Fell also proved effective , able to absorb the pressure of their adversaries attack and manoeuvre them out of position.
Evetts was able to secure the match for his team at 5-3 , with a four set win over left handed blocker Tim Fell , which returns The Eagles to the top of the table , if only by benefit of having played more matches than their rivals.
A good team effort by The Eagles , with two wins each for Credland , Oliver and Evetts – their sixth win of the Winter.
