Colebridge Eagles took a significant stride toward first division safety with their most emphatic win of the season last night. (January 29th ) The unfortunate recipients of the Eagles best form of the season were Bournville C , who were beaten 10-0. Star of the show for the Eagles was Dr Farooq Kakar , who didn’t concede a set , and whose relentless , powerful forehand top spinning was distinguished by a higher successful conversion rate than this correspondent had previously witnessed. The good Doctor had played in the Premier division for Colebridge Braves on Monday , and this match practise was clearly evident in his performance for the Eagles.Supporting him were Mike Evetts and Mahroof Hussain , who were taken to five sets by Andy Rowland and Martin Clayton respectively , but there was to be no respite for the chocolate boys , this was the night of the Eagles. Bournvilles’ cause has not been helped by the departure of Martin George , who is now Colebridges latest adoptive son , and whilst their fate is not yet sealed , their tenure on a first division berth looks tentative at best. In Pat and Bernard Olivers absence ( Bernard makes steady progress and hopes to return soon ) the standard of the catering on offer has declined precipitously , however the Jaffa cakes proffered by the ersatz Captain disappeared without trace as the evening progressed.
