An enraptured Colebridge , with Mrs Bernard Oliver , Brian Morris and Neil Wheatley spectating , saw Colebridge Eagles record their first victory of the Winter season last night , over club mates and avian adversaries , Colebridge Hawks.
A match in which The Hawks will ,rightly, consider themselves slightly unfortunate not to register a point , as on this occasion , the five set encounters all ended in The Eagles favour. The match score ending 8-2.
There were hat tricks for Bernard Oliver and Mike Evetts , Dean Hicks chipped in with a single , and helped Bernard Oliver to an emphatic doubles victory , which was full of fluent forehand drives and accurate top spinning , which was a pleasure to watch.
After match seven , The Eagles were in a commanding 5-2 position , which they converted into a four point win , with two five set victories ; The Rottweiler ( Bernard Oliver ) completely off the leash with a full volume victory over Chris Welch , and Mike Evetts just edging difficult-to-beat John Cox.
An entertaining evening , and many thanks must go to Mrs O. for the excellent half time tea and macaroons – enjoyed by all!
