The Ubhi brothers seem determined to keep the NCYP Under 19 Boys title in the family. Amann had won this event at Halton Table Tennis Centre, Widnes for the previous 3 years, and Amit’s straight games win in a thrilling final against the home club’s higher ranked Matthew McCormick , was not only the highlight of the tournament, but created yet another NCYP and Colebridge record.
All 8 of Colebridge’s entrants performed admirably. 6 progressed from the group to the knock-out stages, with Sam Henderson losing an Under 16 Boys semi-final against the eventual winner and Lee Holtham taking Amit’s final opponent to 5 games in the same stage of the Under 19 Boys event.
Our solitary girl entrant, Lisa Rinnhofer, found herself up against highly ranked and more experienced girls from Wales in the Under 12 event and just failed to make the later stages. However she showed her skills to the full in the consolation Plate event and emerged a worthy winner.
All competitors are given the opportunity to take an examination for the ETTA Junior Umpires certificate. Lisa Rinnhofer, Jamie Fellows, Ben Matthews and Sam Minton did so, and all passed.
Well done everyone!
